Restoring Ventilation: Aeroseal Duct Sealing

The Challenge

An NHS Trust site was facing a critical problem with its ageing ventilation system. The premises' ductwork was installed over 20 years ago, and throughout the two decades since installation, significant work had been carried out around the ductwork, which had resulted in tears and gaps of up to 15mm wide.

The ductwork was also located in an extremely confined area, making it inaccessible for traditional sealing methods. Its high leakage rate was causing a major waste of energy, and insufficient air volume in patient areas, even with the fans at maximum speed.

The gaps meant the leakage rates in the ductwork were exceeding the levels set out for Class A ductwork. The system was also expensive to run as it was having to work harder to achieve the desired air temperature.

The Solution

Our teams deployed Aeroseal Duct Sealing Technology to fix the problem without major intervention. A safe, water-based sealant was injected directly into the ductwork, allowing it to travel through the system and automatically seal leaks and gaps. This allowed the system to become airtight, without the need to access the ductwork.

The Outcome

Aeroseal Duct Sealing Technology allowed the ductwork to be sealed quickly, reducing leakage by an incredible 95% within 20 minutes of starting the treatment. This led to huge energy savings for the customer, as reduced fan speeds, and heating/cooling energy was required to give the desired output. Ensuring an airtight and efficient system also meant the NHS Trust was able to deliver consistent airflow to patient areas. This contributed to the health and safety of the facility by ensuring proper ventilation.
