Factories across the UK are the heartbeat of industry. From food to fabric, car manufacture to carpets, a factory or warehouse is involved in nearly everything we eat, use or buy. So it's vitally important that they are looked after and kept running smoothly and efficiently every day.
Whatever the end product, cleaning forms a massive part of the daily, weekly and monthly operation of any factory. Regular deep cleans help ensure that machinery and production lines operate as they should, with no risk of expensive failures. Scheduled cleaning also helps maintain food hygiene, site safety and protect the wider environment from hazards, saving money, time and reputation for every factory across the country.
All factories produce waste. Flour spillages from a bakery, swarf from a sheet metal manufacturer, or high level dust accumulation in a warehouse, they all need regular cleaning. Most factories will have in-house daily cleaning systems and staff to help keep on top of this, but they all need a helping hand in the form of regular scheduled shutdowns or, in the event of an emergency, a rapid response clean to contain and quickly remove any contaminants or hygiene hazards.
Cleaning at every stage of manufacture, including storage and warehousing, should be a priority. Where cleaning is neglected, the risk of product contamination increases significantly. Anything that finds its way into the final product can result in significant reputational damage through complaints and negative reviews. Foreign objects can also pose a serious health risk, particularly in food products,
Any workplace benefits from being kept clean and hygienic, and manufacturing facilities are no different. A deep clean, including high level cleaning of girders and RSJs (rolled steel joists) removes unseen contaminants which could become a respiratory irritant to staff, as well as potentially interfering with equipment and contaminating goods below if not dealt with.
Manufacturing in the UK involves working to a number of independent standards, with many factories subject to multiple audits every year. Audits ensure that product safety, quality and hygiene are maintained consistently, and ultimately protect the end customer. Whether it's ensuring conformance to BRCGS (Brand Reputation through Compliance Global Standards), ISO 9001, or GMP (Good manufacturing practices) standards, factory deep cleaning will always help improve compliance.
Good hygiene practices help reduce absenteeism rates by destroying bacteria and viruses (pathogens) that can cause illness. Regular deep cleans and specialist disinfection not only improve site hygiene, but also have a positive effect on staff wellbeing, and their perception of working conditions, ultimately resulting in a productive workplace. Our expert technicians are on hand to provide a thorough deep clean of your factory based on your business requirements, from scheduled commercial cleaning services to responsive emergency cleaning.
Factory deep cleans (including machinery, floors, and hard-to-reach areas): Deep cleans are typically scheduled around an operational shutdown for hard to reach or high care areas. Our specialist deep clean teams work at times to suit your needs so we can clean and sanitise all of those areas which can't be accessed on a daily clean.
Warehouse cleaning and high-level dust removal: High level girders and RSJs may often be out of sight, but should never be out of mind. Dust, debris and layers of food can lead to product contamination if disturbed, and in the case of food factories and warehouses can be a breeding ground for pests such as stored product insects (SPIs). Cleaning of warehouses using specialist, high reach cleaning equipment or access equipment removes unseen hygiene hazards, without compromise to your stored goods.
Cleaning and sanitising production areas: Regular cleaning and sanitising of production areas forms part of any site's HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) plan. In-house cleaning on a daily basis forms a significant part of this, but in many areas of a factory, such as within production lines, or as an added level of protection, production area cleans by a professional cleaning company are needed to ensure the required standards of hygiene are consistently met.
Degreasing and oil residue removal: Oils and grease, used as fuels and lubricants in many production lines and items of equipment, are notoriously difficult to remove. Spilled oil poses not only a significant slip hazard, but if left unchecked is an environmental disaster once it enters waterways or drains. Whether its regular removal of daily grease and oil spills, or a rapid response to a spill, our professional cleaning teams are experts in containing, cleaning and safely disposing of oil and grease spills.
Floor scrubbing, pressure washing, and surface disinfection: Keeping floors and walkways clean and safe is vitally important. Slips, trips and falls are the most common cause of workplace lost time accidents. Regular floor cleans and pressure washing of key areas is an important part of any factory's health and safety operations.
Once walls, floors and even ceilings are cleaned, a broad spectrum disinfectant applied to all common touch points is the finishing touch for staff and product hygiene. Our powerful disinfectants destroy up to 99.9999% of bacteria and viruses on common touchpoints such as door handles, protecting everyone from microbiological harm.
Reactive and scheduled cleaning: Whether its a one off emergency clean, or a regular scheduled deep clean, our specialist cleaning teams are not only RSPH (Royal Society for Protection of Health) industry trained, they are all equipped with modern, high tech cleaning equipment and proven cleaning and disinfectant products, to ensure every job is completed to the highest of standards.

Factory cleaning is a broad topic due to the wide range of factories we clean, but largely consists of either reactive cleaning to assist with major issues, or scheduled deep cleaning to assist where daily cleans are not sufficient or need a helping hand.
All cleaning chemicals require safety precautions to be taken to avoid harm to people and the environment, so we will always risk assess their use in a particular job. We always work to COSHH regulations to ensure the least hazardous product is used, and will only ever hand over a job when it's safe to do so.
A factory should undergo a deep clean at least quarterly (every three months), with the exact frequency depending on the industry, level of activity, and specific operational needs. Industries with strict hygiene standards, such as food production or pharmaceuticals, may require more frequent deep cleaning, such as monthly or even after every shift.
