Rentokil Specialist Hygiene’s biological dosing service
Kitchen drainage systems within restaurants, hospitality premises and businesses across the UK form an important role in the successful running of commercial kitchen facilities. However, overtime the build-up of waste food, fats, oils and grease (FOG) can quickly start to form within your drains. If left untreated, the results can lead to unpleasant odours forming and expensive drainage blockages and drain clogs form quickly leading to severe problems. Whilst the use of mechanical cleaning methods, such as high pressure water jets or rodding, can breakdown blockages, they do not act as a preventative measure.
Rentokil Specialist Hygiene’s biological dosing service can periodically feed your commercial kitchen drain pipes and grease trap with a biological solution to breakdown grease and prevents the build-up from occurring and the need for traditional drain cleaner solutions. As part of our installation and service regime, our team provides regular planned service visits to ensure your commercial kitchen drains are operating efficiently.

Rentokil Specialist Hygiene’s biological dosing service periodically feeds your kitchen drain pipes and grease traps with a biological solution. The system comprises of environmentally friendly bacteria and enzymes which are used to biologically digest encrusted deposits of fat and grease and maintain free-flowing conditions. Our biological dosing system is intended to treat downstream escaped FOGs that have not been captured by grease traps, preventing FOGs from entering the drainage system, and ensuring those solidified deposits of fat, grease and organic matter are effectively reduced.
The bacteria and enzymes are dosed into the drains by means of a dispensing pump which is programmed to dose the drainage system at regular intervals depending on the size of the kitchen and the period that it is in use.
This regular dosing provides protection against blockages, offensive odours, overflowing, and associated repercussions. Rentokil Specialist Hygiene’s compact battery-operated unit is unobtrusive and programmed to match the volume and frequency of dose to suit your daily serving times and kitchen routines. The dosing intervals can be increased during peak times in order to ensure optimum protection is maintained.
Our initial service includes cleaning grease traps, pipework and drain runs before the dosing unit is fitted. Following installation, Rentokil Specialist Hygiene carries out scheduled visits to check the condition of the drainage system, top up fluid and ensure the dosing system is operating effectively. The automated solution reduces the use of traditional drain-clearing techniques and extends the life of the pipework whilst decreasing the frequency of grease trap emptying.
Whether your cleaning regime includes maintenance of your kitchen drains, even the most regularly maintained drains can become clogged by the accumulation of fat, oils and grease (FOG) deposits overtime. The continual build-up of these contaminants can have far-reaching implications beyond just the inability of wastewater to flow through. Disruption from drainage obstructions can have costly implications for your business and your reputation. Under the Water Industry Act 1991 section 111 it is a criminal offence to discharge any matter that may interfere with the free flow of the sewerage system into the public sewers.
Depending on what is poured down the drain, unpleasant odours can start to form and depending on the nature of your business can impact your reputation with prospective customers. Grease sludge can support bacteria and encourage pests such as flies and rodents. If a blockage occurs deep within your pipework, and wastewater is unable to pass through, this can lead to cracks in the pipework which can lead to costly repairs.
