Our customer was conducting a refurbishment of a multi-story office block in central London. A critical issue had arisen when the building’s occupants noticed that the first two floors were excessively hot, while the upper floors maintained a comfortable temperature. This was more than a convenience issue as it was a clear indication the existing ventilation system was not meeting the required airflow rates for the building.
This was a complex retrofit project, meaning the building's system was being upgraded, rather than installed from scratch. The problem was not just about comfort, the inefficiency of the system was also leading to a significant waste of energy.
Our expert team conducted a comprehensive pressure test on the building’s ventilation system, to assess the air ventilation system and find out if there were any areas of leakage. The testing confirmed significant air leakage across the 210m2 of ductwork, which was the direct cause of the insufficient airflow being experienced in the lower floors.
To resolve this issue we deployed Aeroseal Duct Sealing Technology throughout the ventilation system, which pumped a sealant into the ductwork. This method effectively sealed leaks from the inside out, addressing all the holes and gaps that were compromising the systems performance.
The application of Aeroseal Duct Sealing technology delivered immediate and impactful results. The post-sealing pressure tests confirmed a 74% reduction in duct leakage, bringing the system's performance up to a Class A standard.
Beyond numbers, the building now benefits from a consistent and effective airflow system, ensuring a comfortable temperature on each floor. The customer was so impressed that they calculated they would recoup their investment within six years through reduced energy consumption.
