How to Slash the Risk of Superbugs Spreading in Hospitals

Ever considered how protected is your local hospital from the threat of superbugs?

Whether it’s MRSA, C. difficile or E coli, these deadly infections could be lurking around the corner in almost any healthcare establishment up and down the country ...

... and a recent study is doing little to put minds at ease.

Alarmingly, scientists at Cardiff University have discovered the humble detergent wipe used to clean hospital wards are actually contributing to the spread of deadly superbugs.

Why?

Because the wipes are reportedly inconsistent in their ability to remove spores of bacteria from surfaces, with researchers claiming they’re “not up to the job” of eliminating superbugs.

In fact, the study revealed that, although successful in removing superbugs, the bacteria is simply transferred when the wipe is subsequently used on a different surface.

Taking Preventative Action
Professor Jean-Yves Maillard, from Cardiff University, said: “Hospital staff must be educated to ensure these products are used properly – a single wipe should not be used on multiple surfaces.”

But what else can be done?

At Rentokil Specialist Hygiene, we’re well aware of the many challenges hospitals face to make sure the environment is safe and hygienic for patients and visitors.

Consequently, we’re committed to working alongside healthcare institutions to provide specialised disinfection services to slash the risk of infections and prevent and control any spread occurring.

This includes extensive deep cleaning, which is available for entire wards and high-risk theatre rooms, all completed with minimal disruption and procedural down time.
