Batten Down the Hatches: UK Gets Set for Floods

With over half a month’s rainfall set to fall in one day, many parts of the UK are on flood alert.

Severe weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office, as three inches of rain is predicted to drench the southwest in just 24 hours.

While the average rainfall for November is 121mm, around half of that will pour down in record time in some parts of the country.

The southwest is expected to be battered badly, although the Environment Agency has issued 26 flood alerts and warnings nationwide.

For homeowners and businesses, the after effects of a flood can be devastating.

Depending on its severity, floodwater can cause enormous damage, with floors, walls, furniture, soft furnishings and even the structure of your building often affected.

Rapid Response Is Crucial

Should this happen to your business, it’s important your building is assessed as soon as possible, with all water removed and affected items dried.

Why?

Because it’ll help prevent further damage to the structure and reduce the chances of mould developing, which can cause respiratory conditions such as asthma and pneumonia.
