Legionella Control
Legionella Bacterium is probably present in all natural water sources. However,
given the right environment, it can become a serious risk to health and
in some cases even prove fatal. If not properly controlled, Legionella will
proliferate rapidly over a wide area, potentially causing severe damage
to health as it spreads. The penalties for noncompliance with current HSE
guidelines for Legionella control include heavy fines and imprisonment,
never mind the potential damage to the hard won reputation of any commercial
organisation or public body. There have been many well publicised cases
of prosecution in recent years, and with the threat of infection, staff
or public disease risk or prosecution is very real.
Watersafe
Rentokil Hygiene provides a complete Water Management System and Service that
meets all the requirements
of The Health and Safety at Work Act of 1974, the revised HSE Approved Code of
Practice (ACoP L8) and the
Water Supply Regulations of 1999.
Other water borne pathogenic bacteria, such as cryptosporidium and E. Coli can also be detected by our legionella control service. If this ever happens we are able to take disinfection actions against these dangerous bacteria that will eradicate the associated risk. That means our customers enjoy the peace of mind that comes from knowing their reputation and well-being is in safe and professional hands.
Risk assessment
In the first instance, our Specialist Watersafe Consultant undertakes a free
site inspection which will identify all
water systems covered by ACoP requirements. These include stored water, drinking
water, process water, closed
systems and cooling towers. Using state of the art electronic technology, our
fully qualified and experienced
Risk Assessor will then carry out a comprehensive survey and produce a complete
Risk Assessment report which
intimates all or any remedial action necessary to meet current standards. Our
reports are site specific, while our
standardised approach is ideal for those with multi-site responsibilities.
Schematic drawings
To comply with HSE requirements the Risk Assessment report also includes a detailed
schematic drawing of
the customer’s systems.
Remedial recommendations
As part of the Risk Assessment report, Rentokil provides a full, no obligation quotation for any work or
improvement the water systems may require. Our comprehensive range of remedial services and water safety
solutions, which include tank lining, tank replacement, system disinfections and all necessary plumbing
alterations, is carried out by trained, experienced plumbing technicians, ensuring the system becomes
compliant with the ACoP and all water supply regulations.
